Letter: Enough already with calls for gun control

Once again a gun-control editorial is pushing the narrative for more gun-control regulations (“National gun crisis, one birthday at a time,” St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Saturday‘s Dispatch). Nowhere did it promote more control through law enforcement and the judicial system. I have owned guns and not one gun ever fired unless the trigger was pulled. Yes, one did fire in the house when loaded and jarred when set down hard in a corner lodging a bullet in the ceiling. Someone failed to follow the rule to unload the chamber before entering the house (human error)!

Every shooting is due to a human actually pulling the trigger whether accidental or intentional. The gun did not fire by itself. The National Rifle Association spends many dollars on gun safety classes and programs for willing participants. Few if any of the alleged shooters ever took one of those gun safety offers!

Media, please stop the drumbeat for gun control and do more to penalize the limited-educated shooters with a beef toward someone else. Gang wars, drugs and “he dissed me” are the bigger reasons for gun violence, based on media reports.
