The death of Sen. John McCain is a huge loss for our country (“War hero, maverick,” New York Times article, Sunday‘s Dispatch). His character, honesty, bravery and sense of fairness are principles that seem to be dying out. If we cannot trust our leaders and politicians to tell the truth and to have those principles, I believe it will be the death of our nation.
As Americans, we must hold those in positions of power to these standards, always, and to practice them ourselves. To do less will hasten the disintegration of the things we hold dear and love about the United States. God rest Sen. McCain and I thank him for his service to our country.
