Southern College remembers former Chancellor Roosevelt D. Steptoe, dies at 86


BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern College and A&M Faculty introduced on Saturday the passing of former chancellor, Roosevelt D. Steptoe. 

Steptoe died on Friday, Nov. 20 on the age of 86. 

His tenure as chancellor at SU lasted for seven years from 1975 to 1982.

The Mississippi native began his profession at SU, his alma mater in 1967, serving as director of financial and transportation analysis, and later grew to become the director of economics analysis initiatives and professor of economics. He ended his profession on the college in 1985.

He then served as vice chairman for tutorial affairs at Alabama State College and likewise served as an assistant professor of economics at Florida A&M College and Alabama A&M College in Huntsville, Alabama.
